Senior Accountant

Overview       

The accountant is responsible for the full accounting cycle and accounting administration of the entities assigned. You will be responsible to liaise with the employees of the entities to complete the daily accounting for the entity. 80% of your responsibilities will be in a private foundation environment.

 

Major Responsibility

Full cycle accounting:

  • AP processing which includes receiving the invoices, circulate for approval, invoice coding, data entry, preparation of all cash disbursement cheques, wires and drafts.
  • Ensure GL accuracy, preparation of journal entries, data entry validation of the accounting data
  • Present accounting package for review by manager
  • Respond to all queries from the manager and the foundation employees
  • Prepare ad-hoc report requests from the foundation
  • Preparation of investment amortization schedule for review by the manager
  • Record the purchase and sale of investments in the investment portfolio
  • Ensure that expense codings align with the budget and liaise with the staff to ensure accuracy
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Reconciliation of all assets and liabilities on a monthly basis
  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager and Controller

 

Experience and Skills Required

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an accounting environment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite, specifically Excel and Word
  • Strict attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate key financial data to any level of employee
  • Solid organizational skills and demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines with a focus on details
  • Solid experience in budget development and analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger
  • Capable of working in an environment where handling multiple tasks simultaneously is the norm requiring excellent prioritization skills
  • Professional and mature presence and the ability to manage confidential information with a high level of discretion

 

Education and Certifications required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field or equivalency
  • Pursuing a Professional designation (CA, CMA or CGA) would be an asset

  • Fast paced, professional office environment with moderate noise levels
  • Must be able to accommodate potentially frequent interruptions
