The Database Administrator/Developer ensures optimal functionality, integrity and security for Verity’s databases.  Additionally, this role works under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Director, Data Services to participate in the design, development and support of data import tools, including manipulation and extraction of data and importing the data into the Verity suite of applications, including and not limited to building tools, creation of complex queries, SSIS packages, and making recommendation for improvements, testing and evaluating new database features.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES OR RESPONSIBILITIES – (The below listed duties are not all inclusive. This position must also perform other duties as assigned.):


Performs all activities related to maintaining successful operation of Verity’s Oracle and SQL databases including database maintenance and monitoring. Proactive monitoring of databases from a performance and capacity planning perspective.  Performs backups and recovery procedures ensuring the storage and safety of all data; follows disaster recovery plan with off-site security measures.  Create and maintain documentation of database servers and processes. 

This role will assist with designing, developing, implementing and maintaining tools to migrate and cleanse data from various source systems into the Verity suite of applications, building efficient, repeatable processes, accounting for error handling and the ability to re-execute from error points.  Must be able to investigate and resolve data issues as needed.  Must be methodical and able to establish priorities. Strong documentation skills required along with the ability to train others.

  • 4 year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field (required)
  • Five or more years’ experience in relational database design and Administration using Oracle 11 is required
  • Experience backing up and restoring databases in Oracle and MS SQL Server
  • Seasoned in the full development life cycle including requirements gathering
  • Experience developing and supporting mission critical applications that function 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • High motivation and commitment to quality and customer service
  • Strong debugging, performance tuning and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent time-management, organization, prioritization, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing technical projects.
  • Extensive computer usage and use of the phone.


 SKILLS REQUIRED (manual, verbal or mental manipulation of data or things):


  • Work closely with and communicate effectively with clients, peers, and management teams.
  • Strong experience in maintaining Production, QA, and Development databases, both Oracle and MS SQL Server
  • Ability to think creatively
  • Communicates any issues/concerns regarding contractual obligations related to storage, uptime, and security
  • Requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal media.
  • A fundamental understanding of relational database theory and set-based logic.
  • Responsible for writing PL-SQL and T-SQL statements to insert, update, and delete data.
