About the Georgetown Hospital:
The Georgetown Hospital is a community hospital located in the Georgetown area of Halton Hills, Ontario. Built on 17 acres of land, it opened in 1961 to serve the Halton Region, but today it also serves the communities of Peel Region.
The Hospital has a variety of Inpatient Units, Outpatient Clinics, as well as a unique Supportive Housing Program that provides support and coordinates services for seniors living at designated Supportive Housing sites in Georgetown.
About the Inpatient Units:
Close Observation Unit (COU)
The Close Observation Unit (COU) is a level 2 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) that provides care to complex, acute patients. Nurses working on this unit require their Critical Care Certificate and experience in recognizing and managing deteriorating patients.
Complex Transitional Care Unit
The Complex Transitional Care Unit (CTC) is an inpatient unit intended to optimize patients’ quality of life, maximize their independence and improve their function, to the extent possible when a patient no longer requires the hospital's acute care services. Nurses working on this unit must have a strong knowledge base in managing patients with complex nursing and therapeutic needs.
The Georgetown Hospital Emergency Department services a broad catchment area that includes Halton Hills and the surrounding communities’ north and east of Halton Hills as well as west Brampton. The ED provides treatment to more than 34,000 people every year.
The ED is staffed by physicians and nurses as well as a variety of allied healthcare professionals including physician assistants, physiotherapists, pharmacists and Mental Health Crisis Nurses. The Georgetown Hospital treats illnesses in the range from minor to life-threatening, and patients are treated based on the severity of their illness.
If the needs of the patient are outside the scope of what Georgetown can provide, they will be stabilized and transferred to a hospital offering specialized care designed to meet the needs of the specific illness.
The Medical Surgical Unit is an inpatient unit that requires nurses to assess, plan and implement care for a variety of acute medical and surgical patients on a dynamic, fast-paced basis. Nurses must have a strong knowledge base in managing cardiac-telemetry, acute respiratory and post-operative patients.
Nurses who are hired into the Medical Surgical Unit typically work a dual unit role combined with the Complex Transitional Care or the Close Observation Unit.
