JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:  Staff Accountant    DEPARTMENT:  Accounting

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Staff Accountant is responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial statements by compiling information, preparing board reports, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:   Bachelors Degree with major in accounting

Training:    6 months on the job training

Experience:    6 months general accounting experience after graduation.

Job Knowledge:   Understanding and practical application of generally accepted accounting
 principals. Be familiar with specialized health care, hospital’s system of data
 processing, accounting, and budgeting. Must be competent in communicating
 with employees, vendors, lawyers, and auditors regardless of age.

PERFORMANCE REQUIRMENTS:

Responsibility for: 
 Assist in preparing profit and loss statements and monthly closing and cost
 accounting reports. Compile and analyze financial information to prepare
 entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business
 transactions. Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of
 accounting and accounting control procedures. Analyze and review budgets
 and expenditures for local, state, federal, and private funding, contracts, and
 grants. Monitor and review accounting related system reports for accuracy
 and completeness. Prepare and review budget, revenue, expense, payroll
 entries, invoices, and other accounting documents. Analyze revenue
 expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure
 expenditure control.  Resolve accounting discrepancies. Assist with the input
 and handling of financial data and reports. Interact with internal and external
 auditors in completing audits. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: 

Moderate walking, standing, stooping, bending and lifting.  Sitting for long
 periods of time.  May be required to lift medium weights up to 25-50lbs.
 Normal or corrected vision is essential for long periods of working with
 numbers and computer. Must have good hearing.

 

Special Demands: 

 Must be able to work with frequent interruptions, take initiative, use better
 than average judgment in making decisions, have ability to work under pressure and ability to work cooperatively with employees, vendors, lawyers, and auditors regardless of age. Must have high level of understanding of department and hospital operations in order to answer questions, and give direction in a timely manner. Requires long periods of concentration and attention to detail. Must be extremely accurate. Must have ability to keep confidential information confidential.
