JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Director of Patient Financial Services

DEPARTMENT: Patient Accounting

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Chief Financial Officer  

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Patient Financial Services is responsible for the overall management of the patient accounting department and the admissions department.  The Director is responsible for directing, planning and overseeing activities related to revenue cycle management and enhancement.  The Director provides key leadership consultation and expertise regarding all pre-and post-patient access activities, financial counseling, POS collections efforts, hospital technical billings, professional billings, denial management, and payer relations.  The Director is responsible for preparation and analysis of various reports for Chief Financial Officer.  The Director must possess excellent communication and organizational skills. 


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:   Bachelor degree with major in accounting or business.

Training: Six months on the job training.

Experience: Prior experience in patient accounting/patient financial services management required.

Job Knowledge: Overall knowledge of the patient accounting functions and activities within the Hospital as well as an understanding of the admissions department and how it relates to patient accounting.  Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Responsibility For:  Responsible for the overall management of the patient accounting department and the admissions department.  Monitor activities of patient accounting and admissions departments.  Work closely  with departments to improve days in accounts receivable, accurate reporting and superior patient services.  Review activities of collections agencies to insure accurate and adequate services. Coordinate activities between patient accounts and admissions departments to reduce errors and develop an efficient billing and collection process.  Maintain interval control procedures      throughout each department.  Assist in preparation of financial and cost report data. 

Physical Demands: Moderate walking, standing, stooping, bending and lifting.  Sitting for long periods of time.  May be required to lift medium weights up to 25-50 lbs.  Normal or corrected vision is essential for long periods of working with numbers and computer.  Must have good hearing.  Must be able to work with frequent interruptions, take initiative, use better than average judgment in making decisions, have ability to work cooperatively with employees, patients, third    party representatives, lawyers and auditors regardless of age. Must    have a high level of understanding of department and hospital    operations in order to answer questions and give direction in a    timely manner. Require attention to detail and extreme accuracy.    Must have ability to keep confidential information confidential.


REPRESENTATIVE FUNCTIONS:

Percentage of Time
1. Overall management of patient accounting department.   25%

2. Overall management of admissions department.               25%

3. Directing, planning, and overseeing activities related to   20%
 revenue cycle management and enhancement.

4. Reconciliation of accounts receivable and prepare for       10%
and lead monthly accounts receivable committee.

5. The Director is responsible for preparation and analysis   20%
 of various reports for Chief Financial Officer.
