DEPARTMENT: Registration
JOB TITLE: Registration Clerk
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for greeting and registering all hospital patients. Accurately inputs and verifies patient demographic and insurance information to ensure an up-to-date and accurate medical and patient billing record. Knowledgeable of and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Communicates patient information to other departments as needed. Acts as a note taker during emergency medical codes in the Emergency Department. Demonstrate proficiency with answering the hospital switchboard including paging emergency/disaster codes. Handles inquiries, answer telephone and pages as needed. Functions as part of a team to provide excellent customer service. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED is required
Training: Six weeks
Experience: Customer Service experience and computer knowledge
Job Knowledge: Must be competent in communication, computers and multi-line phone system.
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Job Performance: Proficient with the hospitals computer system, the different types of registration processes, the different duties of each shift, emergency plans. Review paperwork and orders verifying all required data elements. Provide excellent customer service. Complete any other duties as assigned.
Availability: Must be dependable and available to work all shifts as shifts may rotate between day shift, second shift and midnight shift.
Physical Demands: Frequent walking, standing, stooping and bending. Sitting for prolonged periods of time. May be required to lift medium weights up to 25lbs. Normal or corrected vision is essential for long periods of working with computers. Must have good hearing. Mental alertness and concentration. Ability to act as note taker during emergency medical codes in the Emergency Department.
Special Demands: Must have good communication skills with people of all ages. Ability to keep confidential information confidential. Ability to work under pressure and be extremely accurate. Must be cooperative and have a high level of tact, courtesy and patience when dealing with patients and employees of all ages.
