JOB TITLE: Material Management Clerk

DEPARTMENT: Material Management

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary responsibilities of the materials management clerk are receiving shipments, filling and issuing supplies, delivering orders within and outside of the hospital to the various clinics and other hospital entities, and stocking the storeroom. The clerk completes and enters paperwork in the computer system. Storeroom functions include rotating and maintaining stock on the shelves, checking for expiration dates, keeping stock in an orderly fashion. The Clerk checks par levels in nursing areas on a daily basis along with glove rounds, and refilling IV trays. Mailroom functions include operation of the postage machine, sorting mail, transporting the mail to and from the post office.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:              High School diploma or equivalent, with on-the-job training within the

                                    Material Management Department.

 Training:                Six to eight weeks job orientation.

 Experience:          Basic computer skills required.

 

Job Knowledge:

 Required to know hospital policy and procedure. Ability to unload and receive freight, and distribute and store supplies. Ability to breakdown and carry out boxes, ability to interpret and process packing slips and freight bills and to work with computers. Ability to deal professionally with department heads and other employees and to prioritize urgent requisitions of purchasing and run errands. Must be competent at communicating with patients, employees and physicians of all ages. Ability to deliver products to floors, post items in the computer, disinfect, store and distribute all equipment.                                                                                                                                                             

 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Receiving, storing, and distributing of supplies and equipment. Checking quantities received against packing slip and purchase order in computer and is responsible for notifying material manager or purchasing assistant immediately of all discrepancies. Determines proper destination of supplies and equipment ordered for other departments and assures timely delivery to the designated department. Ship materials and equipment from the hospital, including packaging of items being shipped. Assembles equipment or refers to maintenance department when necessary. Takes items from stock to fill requisitions and maintains supplies in designated supply areas throughout the hospital. Applies charge labels to patient chargeable items. Maintains proper storage of supplies in storeroom. Keeps the receiving area clean and organized. Performs other duties as assigned.  

                

Physical Demands:

                                   

Walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, reaching, climbing, pushing and pulling for extended periods of time. Medium to heavy lifting required. (25-50 pounds) Normal or corrected vision and hearing is essential. Manual dexterity of fingers, hands, arms, feet and legs are required. Must be capable of moving quickly to obtain emergency needs of surgery, emergency or nursing areas.

Ability to keep confidential information due to contract pricing, processing mail and patient information. Ability to handle a changing variety of duties and to deal professionally with a variety of personalities. Duties require communication with every hospital department. Requires concentration, good judgment and ability to work cooperatively with others.
