JOB SUMMARY:     Positions patients, perform diagnostic radiology examinations for evaluation and interpretation by a qualified physician, and processes film/ process information in PACS system.




Education:   Graduate of a school of radiologic technology and registered or registry eligible by the ARRT.  Licensed by the State of Illinois.


Training:       One month orientation


Experience:             none required


Job Knowledge:     Knowledge of radiation safety and exam protocols for general and specialized radiology procedures.  Knowledge of IDNS rules and regulations.  Knowledge of OSHA universal precautions.  Knowledge of contrast media administration and complications.  Competent in radiographing pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.  The staff member must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit.  The partner must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and process the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed by the (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) patient group.   Knowledge of PACS system.





Responsibility For:            Scheduling patients. Performing radiology exams utilizing radiation safety practices.  Transporting patients and processing film.  Collecting CQI data.  Performing equipment QC.  Assisting in writing and implementing radiology policies and procedures.  Covering all shifts including weekends and holidays as needed. Responsible for occasionally covering HMC clinic shifts.  Attending all department meetings.


Physical Demands:           Work is of moderate demand. Standing, sitting, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and frequently carrying light (10-25 lbs.) objects is required.  The occasional moving of heavy (50-100 lbs.) objects and moving patients from wheelchair or cart to exam table is needed.  Appearance shall be neat and clean.


Special Demands:              Works near radiation sources.  Must be compassionate and patient.  Must possess good communication skills, be able to work well as part of a team, and function under pressure.
