The Cell Therapy Program at the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada, was established in 2005 and is now part of the Regenerative pillar of the Arthritis Program at UHN. Its mission is to pursue translational and clinical research to develop cell therapy based treatment strategies for cancer, autoimmune, trauma and degenerative diseases and its vision is to become a global leader in cell therapy research. This program consists of five components: Good Manufacturing Process (GMP)-compliant cell manufacturing facilities, a translational laboratory for conducting pre-clinical studies, a Clinical Research Program which includes nurses and clinical fellows, a regulatory training program and a regulatory consulting service. This program provides the opportunity to translate the laboratory research through pre-clinical studies and onto clinical trials (Phase I/II). Staff has the expertise to develop not only pre-clinical models and scale-up cell manufacturing for clinical use but can also interact with government agencies to obtain approval to undertake clinical trials, and exercise rigorous quality control to ensure that cell are grown in compliance with all safety standards and regulations.

We are looking to employ a Research Technician II to join our highly productive research laboratory. The individual will be required to assist research associates, senior fellows and/or graduate students on various experiments. In addition, the individual will be responsible for undertaking experiments that include expertise in the following: tissue culture, cell isolation, immune deficient animal models, flow cytometric and molecular techniques. Experience in these areas is essential. Other responsibilities may include: utilizing practical and theoretical knowledge to perform laboratory procedures and functions, including development and validation of new methodologies; troubleshooting of assays with team members; completing assigned workload to ensure the efficient operation of the laboratory; performing cross-functional duties as assigned, or requested; as well as other duties related to, and consistent with, the job classification, as required.

• At minimum, a Bachelor’s Degree in Cellular Biology, Engineering (Chemical or Biomedical), Immunology or related discipline; Master's Degree preferred 
• At minimum 3 years related experience
• Strong background in cell culture, including adherent and suspension cell cultures as well as human primary cells such as Mesenchymal Stromal Cells
• Strong knowledge of RNAseq and flow cytometry, including development of new protocols for cell staining and characterization
• Basic molecular biology skills, including PCR, ELISA, and blotting as well as familiarity with cytotoxicity assays, cell purification using immunomagnetic separation techniques and genetic manipulation of cell
• Strong documentation skills especially regarding GMP compliant documentation
• Strong administrative skills especially regarding finance, budgets, etc.
• Must be a solution-based and creative thinker, good at troubleshooting
• Must be able to work independently
• Must have the ability to work well as part of a team in a fast paced environment and foster open communication, mutual understanding and cooperation within the company and with external vendors
• Well-developed computer skills (R-studio experience in biostatistics would be an asset)
