The Arthritis Program at the Krembil Research Institute of the University Health Network in Toronto, Canada, is seeking an outstanding early career investigator to establish an innovative, collaborative and translationally-relevant research program, focused on osteoarthritis. The ideal applicant will have a PhD or MD/PhD in the area of cell biology, postdoctoral experience, and an excellent track record of mechanistic-level research in osteoarthritis, including publications in high ranking journals. We especially welcome applicants with interests in studying human osteoarthritis clinical samples, generating animal models of pain and osteoarthritis, and molecular biology and imaging techniques. Experience studying osteoarthritis using “omics” technologies would be an asset to conduct patient phenotyping for mechanisms regulating osteoarthritis symptoms and pathology.

Applicants will work closely with other scientists and surgeons/clinicians within the Arthritis Program, developing synergies and opportunities for improved patient outcomes. Applicants should complement the Program’s interdisciplinary approach and existing research strengths in translational therapeutic research of molecular and cell therapies, patient profiling, outcome predictions, and bioinformatics in osteoarthritis.

The successful applicant will be expected to establish an independent, externally-funded, research program. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be recommended for an appointment at an appropriate department at the University of Toronto at a level commensurate with their experience.

• PhD or MD/PhD in cell biology or related field
• At minimum, 3 years’ closely related experience OR combination of education, experience and demonstrated ability that is recognized as equivalent
• Advanced expertise in a field relevant to the biomedical or biological sciences
• Knowledgeable of scientific, clinical and technical issues for relevant field
• Demonstrative ability to engage and work collaborative with all levels and members of the inter-professional team, research team and external stakeholders
• Demonstrated effective communication (written and verbal), problem-solving and consensus-building skills
