The Finance Manager - Programs is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial and due diligence activities of the Finance Programs Team. The role includes managing a team of Finance Partners to oversee 400+ active projects and due diligence on new projects during the negotiation phase. The role has a wide-ranging number of internal and external stakeholders.

Working closely with the Director of Finance, and Programs Team, the responsibilities of the Finance Manager - Programs include, but are not limited to:
• Review and approve innovator’s budgets during the negotiation period, and review amended budgets during the life of the project.
• Due diligence on innovators: complete institutional risk assessments to ensure organizations have the capability to administer funding
• Post-deal execution: review innovator financial reports for a portfolio of 100+ projects, recommending payments and escalating any issues
• Strong communications and writing skills to effectively provide advice and guidance to the Finance Partners, Programs/Investment teams and Innovators
• Review innovator budgets and financial reporting templates and guidelines to innovators
• Lead and present at the financial information sessions for innovators and present due diligence results to management
• Troubleshooting and resolving complex issues and problems escalated by staff.
• Recommend and implement policies and procedures to improve or streamline processes
• Liaise with internal and external professional service providers and funders. Respond to inquiries, information and reports, as requested.
• Plan and assign tasks to finance staff. Lead, motivate and mentor team members.
• Evaluate and complete individual performance evaluations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by management. Adhere to established policies and procedures.
• Travel up to 10% to complete on-site institutional assessments and financial capacity building sessions

• Bachelor degree in Finance/Accounting or other undergraduate degree in a related field
• Member of CPA Canada (Chartered Professional Accountants), CPA Designation
• 5 to 8 years of team leadership experience, preferably in the not-for-profit environment
• A minimum of three (3) years of grant management experience
• Independent thought leadership - able to work independently, make timely decisions and drive solutions forward under time pressure.
• Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and implement solutions at the management level.
• Leadership and communication – excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills, is proactive in identifying issues, seeking solutions and able to build consensus across groups and individuals to implement solutions.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work with all levels of employees and management.
• People management and business partnership – able to identify and resolve issues to implement change and efficiency.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
