Salary Range:    $114,601 - $143,266 per annum
Hours:               37.5 hours per week
Status:              Permanent Full Time


University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Director of Finance for Toronto Western Hospital & Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.

As a key member of the hospital’s financial services function and a member of the senior management teams of the Vice President & Executive Leads for the Toronto Western (TW) and Toronto Rehab (TR) site portfolios, the Director of Finance is responsible for the effective and efficient management of their financial resources, contributing strategic and operational guidance and support to their successful performance.  The Director is the key advisor to the Vice President & Executive Leads for TW and TR, as well as the Sr. Director of Finance, Clinical Programs, on all business and financial matters relating to TW/TR and UHN.  Furthermore, the Director is responsible for regular reporting of financial risks and mitigation strategies to the Sr. Director.  Additionally, the Director has the responsibility to ensure effective management of financial processes and systems within the portfolios combined with budgeting and financial analysis of activities and costs.  The Director is also expected to participate in and supervise others in projects/special projects relating to UHN.




Financial Management 

Leads multi-site financial planning and oversight of operating and capital budgets for both TW and TR, including development of the financial strategy and management for the portfolios, highlighting key issues, as well as providing advice on financial matters and action plans.  Supports the strategic growth of the portfolios to advance their clinical, research, and education mandates.


Administrative Management

Performs administrative responsibilities to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the portfolios


Productivity and Analysis 

Leads productivity analysis on portfolio activities


Project/Special Project Management

Maintains responsibility for the effective management and execution of projects and special projects



  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or business degree with relevant experience
  • Master’s degree in Business or Health Administration or recognized equivalent
  • Eight to ten years’ related experience required; experience working in a hospital is an asset
  • Strong business acumen with solid experience in business management, financial planning, performance measurement and budgeting functions
  • Exposure to internal control systems in a multi-divisional organization
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to identify trends, establish benchmarks, as well as provide credible analysis and business recommendations
  • High emotional intelligence with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex financial issues to a broad audience
  • Ability to work and thrive in a changing environment while experiencing financial constraints
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills with the ability to create integrated plans, influence outcomes and engage multiple stakeholders
  • A strong service orientation with a passion to advance the mission of UHN
  • Working knowledge of Health System Funding Reform is an asset
  • Solid experience in project management and special projects
