Salary Grade/ Range: H0:10, $96,002 to $120,002 per annum 
Status: Permanent Full-time

As a key member of the UHN Finance Management Team, the Senior Manager, Procurement is a key advisor for the Director, Procurement on all procurement related matters. The Senior Manager, Procurement will provide support to UHN for sourcing and purchasing activities and will be responsible for ensuring effective and efficient management on all business matters relating to the Procurement department. 

Additionally, the Senior Manager, Procurement has the responsibility to ensure effective management of systems within Procurement, budgeting and financial analysis of departmental and supply chain activities and costs, and internal/external financial and procurement audit processes. The Senior Manager, Procurement is also expected to participate in and supervise others in project/special projects, business case development, ongoing process improvement and day-to-day management for all accountable areas in this portfolios relating to Procurement and the University Health Network.



  • Manages all aspect of human resources including day-to-day supervision, coaching and support of five direct reports


  • Maintains responsibility for the Procurement Management team and related activities
  • Ensuring appropriate procurement systems and procedures are developed, implemented and in accordance with Broader Public Sector Directives, UHN Policy, Trade Agreements and other rules that apply
  • Reviewing and auditing procurement activities, highlighting key issues for remediation as needed, and working with internal/external auditors as required
  • Ensure that procurement activities are aligned with UHN Procurement Management policies and procedures, including reporting to UHN Finance on procurement activities as required.
  • Administering end to end procurements, assisting in the negotiation and implementation of contracts
  • Relationship management with Plexxus, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), the Ministry and other stakeholders as required

PROJECT/SPECIAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT - Maintains responsibility for the effective management and execution of projects and special projects, including:

  • Lead an organizational wide project targeted at operational savings through varying procurement initiatives
  • Driver of the project's governance structure
  • Drive organizational change through influencing stakeholders to enable project objectives, deliverables and determine priorities for new initiatives
  • Engage senior stakeholders to drive pace and increase impact of savings
  • Provide strategic and operational insight as well as progress on saving initiatives
  • Assuming the lead and/or co-lead role on other special projects, as assigned, mentoring and coaching team members as needed to complete the special project/assignment

ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT - Performing administrative responsibilities to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Procurement department, including:

  • Implementing policies and procedures, within scope of authority
  • Maintains reporting and communication with the Management Team on all procurement related matters
  • Develops, implements, manages and reviews short and long-term plans which are in alignment with UHN’s goals and strategies. 
  • Representation on appropriate committees internal and external to the Procurement Department, internal and external to UHN and conducting inter-departmental meetings, as required
  • Maintaining signing authority for shared accounts, within scope of authority.


  • At minimum, completion of a Bachelor’s degree or college degree
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in health care  
  • Ability and proven experience in leading and managing direct reports  
  • Experience in project management 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrates a commitment to providing a high level of customer service, with an acute understanding of the customer and their needs; utilizes sound judgment and decision making
  • Demonstrated project management skills; ability to organize, control and coordinate a variety of activities in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Ability to prioritize workload, manage unexpected occurrences and at the same time manage deadlines
  • Ability and proven experience to communicate (written and present) effectively with senior management
  • Excellent communication skills combined with strong analytical abilities and mathematical aptitude required
  • Demonstrated experience in supplier relationship management and supplier qualification
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite
