Status: Permanent Full Time

POSITION PROFILE:
de Souza Institute is hiring an Advanced Practice Nurse Educator for a permanent full-time position. The institute is part of the University Health Network Education Portfolio, to support health care professionals that care for cancer patients and their families. Through de Souza Institute, health care professionals nationally and internationally obtain their specialized skills required to guide and help cancer patients throughout their journey, from prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, to palliation. de Souza Institute courses are offered primarily online with the occasional course offered through webcast and/or in-person.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Working with the Institute’s education and information technology teams, and in conjunction with UHN Education’s strategic plan, the Educator will lead the development and implementation of oncology education programs for health care professional across Canada, with clinical foci of oncology and palliative care.  This will be achieved through collaborating with all levels of the interdisciplinary teams and organizations, implementing and evaluating processes to enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes of health care professionals throughout Canada. The Educator competencies focus on education and staff development, collaboration, scholarly/research activity, and leadership/change management.

The principal responsibilities include: utilizing principles of adult education to develop/design, plan, and deliver/provide educational programs/activities which facilitates the development of oncology and palliative care specialized clinicians; encouraging, promoting and facilitating continuous learning for the health care team and to ensure constant improvement in the quality of oncology and palliative care services; performing corporate and consultation responsibilities; performing research responsibilities; and performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing or recognized equivalent;
  • Successful completion of de Souza Institute’s Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy course and in good standing with the Chemotherapy Competency Maintenance course;
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in oncology nursing required with experience in palliative care an asset;
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in chemotherapy and biotherapy administration and care required;
  • Current CNA Oncology Certification required;
  • Theoretical and practical experience in adult education including educational program planning, development and evaluation required;
  • Excellent presentation, program planning and teaching skills;
  • Excellent professional nursing knowledge and skills;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with key stakeholders in policy, acute care and community care to develop and implement innovative programming to support professional development of health care providers and quality improvement in oncology and palliative care;
  • Proficiency in the use of computer applications to support work processes, eLearning implementation and information management;
  • Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
